[WARNING! SPOILERS AHEAD!]

Full title: Adventures of The Powerpuff Girls, Ultimate Birthday Cake Bash.

One of the many Adventures Of The Powerpuff Girls story books, and so far the only one that has the Rowdyruff Boys in it. But not the common Season 5+6 ones, their forgotten original Season 1 selves! Something that is basically unheard of these days.

After hearing about this I decided to buy myself a copy and see how the Boys were utilized in this one. But I might as well go through the entirety of the book.

There are only 3 chapters in this, which are rather short with large font texts and some illustrations.

Chapter 1: Party Problem.

The Girls are throwing a surprise birthday party for the Professor (we miss you, Tom Kane) but when they got to the bakery after setting up the party they say that someone else got the custom-order cake, someone who looked a lot like them. Obviously the Girls suspect the Rowdyruff Boys and hunt them down. 

Very basic plot and goal. Though I wonder how the boys found out about the Professor's birthday and the Girls plans? One of them must've snooped on them, but that's not really important.

Chapter 2: Cake Fight.

The girls find the boys at the park and fight them with the goal of kicking their butts and recovering the cake. As the fight began, the boys started tossing the cake around to stop each of the girls’ attacks as a shield. The cycle continues until Buttercup gets thrown into the cake by Butch and smooshes it. The girls basically throw the destroyed cake back at the boys, where they basically end up overstuffing them with it, incapacitating them with the ruined treat.

Yeah, same sort of thing as before in the original series and in one of the Dynamite Entertainment Comics; no actual beatdown, just exploitation and nothing else. Though, I guess it was in-line with the series' norm.

Chapter 3: A Happy Birthday.

With the boys stuffed and even topped with frosting to look like cakes, the girls take off and try to get some cupcakes for the Professor instead, only for the bakery to be closed since it was night. Deflated, the girls head home, hoping things will still work out. But thankfully, the Professor was happy nonetheless despite not having cake or cupcakes. Saying, "Who needs a cake? I've got all the sugar, spice, and everything nice thanks to my three sweet little girls!"

An adorable ending, albeit bittersweet given how the cake was lost and the Girls once again fail to round up the boys and take them to jail, but the love of the Girls was all the Professor really needed on his special day.

Q: What are the three words that describe the Rowdyruff Boys?

A: Canonically Underappreciated (or Meritorious) Characters. I could say a lot more, but I'll save that for another day.

Q: What is your favorite illustration in this story? Why?

A: The cover - I just like it. The illustration on page 13 - It looks like it's missing a VERSUS caption, if not health bars along with a "ROUND 1 -- FIGHT!" caption. The boys defeat illustration in the 21st page was quite nice, though the chains don't really make sense all told.

Q: Why did Buttercup grin after she smashed the birthday cake? Were you surprised by her reaction at first?

A: Not really. I've seen something sort of like this before in the Boys Are Back In Town episode.

Q: Professor Utonium says he doesn't need a cake. But if you were planning your birthday, what things would you want for your party?

A: Parties are not really my thing, I'm an introvert. Cake isn't really my thing either, I'd rather have a large pepperoni pizza instead.

Overall, it was an okay story, and it was DEFINITELY a sweet treat to see the Season 1 Rowdyruffs back in someway or form, pun intended. As for the boys they had their street smarts and the intelligence to use the cake as a way to stop the Girls from attacking them. I do find the latter portion of the fight entertaining, basically the boys had their cake and got to eat it too! I'd give it a 7 out of 10, even if it was incredibly short, if not was made for younger children. Though, I don't really consider the Powerpuff Girls series as a "children's series" anymore given how the original series had a LOT more controversial stuff in it along with the violence and suggestive content. But, that's just me on that little tangent.

Would I utilize this for Powerpuff Girls Repowered? No, chronologically incompatible. Plus, I already utilized the Professor's birthday in my revised version of A Very Special Blossom, which in itself happened AFTER the Ruffs were destroyed/ killed by the Powerpuff Girls cootie kisses of death. Though, I might make my own iteration of this for the sequel series, Team Chemical X, which is basically a whole year AFTER the original 1998 series, but with a different villain since the boys would not be evil anymore, if not are a part of the Puffs as a team.

I might check out the other books later on. But for now, this one was okay for what it is and how it was presented.
